Breakwater Creek Path

Breakwater Creek Path follows a small waterway through suburban Breakwater in Geelong, a quiet on-lead walk that rarely gets crowded. The tracks run beside the creek through Breakwater Reserve on Tanner Street, which is the easiest place to start.

Lead rules

City of Greater Geelong rules keep dogs on a lead on the path and shared trails, and away from playgrounds and active sports equipment.

Some council ovals allow off-lead time when no organised sport is on, so check the signs at the reserve before you unclip on the grass.

The walk

The surface is a mix of sealed and compacted unsealed path, winding along the creek through a pocket of native plants and wildlife. Mature trees shade parts of the corridor, while the open sports fields have none.

There is parking on site at Breakwater Reserve and public toilets in the pavilion. Bins are around the reserve, but don't count on dog water along the track, so carry a bottle and bowl.

Make a day of it

Finish with coffee at Sweet Adeline by the Barwon or Kilgour St Grocer.

When to go

The low foot traffic suits dogs that get wound up in busier places. In summer, go early, before the open ground heats up.
