Gilbey Loop Walk

The Gilbey Loop is a short bush circuit of about a kilometre inside Belmont Wetlands State Park, in Belmont. Tall eucalypts and ferns give way to views over the Jewells Wetlands.

Lead rules

Dogs are welcome but must be on a lead at all times, and the park's dog policy caps leads at two metres. The Belmont Wetlands State Park Trust manages the land.

The walk

This is natural ground, with dirt tracks, bush paths and a few ups and downs. It is not suited to prams or wheelchairs.

Some stretches are shaded by bushland, while the dune edges are open to the sun. Vehicles use parts of the wider park, so keep dogs close near tracks.

Getting started

Park along Railway Crescent or just inside the main entrance. There is a bubbler at the Railway Crescent car park and bins near the parking areas, but bring your own bags for the trail.

Make a day of it

For a longer on-lead outing, the Fernleigh Track is nearby, and Cassowary Café is an easy coffee stop.

When to go

The short distance suits a quick outing with young or older dogs. Cooler mornings are best for the open dune sections.
