Sturt Creek Trail

The Sturt Creek Trail follows a shaded creek gully on the Flinders University campus at Bedford Park, in Adelaide's south. Once you are in the gully, the university buildings feel a long way off, and dogs are allowed on a lead.

Note that the trail is at Bedford Park, not the western suburb of Flinders Park.

Lead rules

Flinders University allows dogs on the trail as long as they stay on a lead at all times. Bring your own bags, since bins are sparse or absent on the track.

The walk

The trail runs about 1.1 kilometres one way on natural dirt tracks and unsealed paths along the lower gully. Mature pines and native scrub give it plenty of shade and a real bushwalk feel inside the metro area.

The ground undulates, so expect a few ups and downs.

Getting started

Park in the designated campus car parks along the Ring Road, which also has bus stops. There is no dog water on the trail, so carry a bottle and bowl.

When to go

The heavy shade makes it a good summer option. Its quiet, rugged feel suits dogs who prefer bush smells to busy paved paths.
