Amy Gillett Bikeway

A sealed path through the Adelaide Hills, the Amy Gillett Bikeway links Charleston with Oakbank, Woodside, Mount Torrens and Birdwood. Dogs are welcome, but on a leash.

Lead rules

Adelaide Hills Council, which also calls the route the Amy Gillett Pathway, requires dogs on a leash on footpaths, streets and council trails. Off-lead running is kept to designated dog parks, some of them in reserves along the wider route.

The walk

The whole path is bitumen, so it stays firm year round and is easy on older dogs. You can join it in Charleston and walk as far along the line as you like.

The scenery is classic Hills country, with rolling paddocks, vineyards and small historic towns strung along the way.

Make a day of it

Start or finish in Charleston at Hope Blooms Cafe and Floristry. Further along, Avalon of Woodside is a good stop in Woodside.

Who it suits

Owners who want a long, even walk with country views and a cafe at each end. Bring water for the dog, as the stretches between towns are rural.
