Botanic Park

Botanic Park, also known as Tainmuntilla, spreads out under century-old Moreton Bay figs and plane trees in the Adelaide Park Lands, right beside Hackney. Dogs are welcome here on lead, unlike the Botanic Garden next door, where only assistance dogs may enter.

Lead rules

Botanic Gardens and State Flora manages the park. Dogs must be on a lead and under full control at all times, and owners bring their own bags.

The walk

Sealed paths mix with gravel and open grass, so you can keep to the tracks or wander the lawns. The canopy of figs, planes and elms gives deep shade for most of the way.

Fountains with dog bowls are near the main entries along Plane Tree Drive, and bins line the perimeter paths. A large colony of grey-headed flying foxes roosts in the treetops.

Max: Keep your dog clear of any bats or wildlife on the ground under the roost.

Getting there

Paid parking runs Monday to Saturday from 8am to 10pm on Plane Tree Drive and at the Hackney Road entrance. It is free on Sundays and public holidays.

The River Torrens Circuit makes a longer walk nearby.

The deep shade makes this one of the better summer walks near the city, and the level paths suit older dogs.
