Colby Cottages

Colby Cottages is a trio of self-contained, dog-friendly cottages set on 14 fenced acres in the Wooragee Valley, between Beechworth and Yackandandah. The single reason to book: your dog gets genuine off-leash freedom on rolling rural hill country without sacrificing indoor comforts or paying an extra pet fee.

Dogs at the cottages

Well-behaved, house-trained dogs are welcome inside all three cottages, Miners, Captains and Orchard, at no additional charge. The property boundary is fenced, with one caveat worth knowing: a small gap at the driveway entrance, so manage your dog around that access point and do a visual check of the gate area before letting them out unsupervised. Inside, dogs are not permitted on beds or furniture, and you cannot leave a dog locked inside the cottage while you head out. Confirm exact terms with the hosts at booking in case anything has shifted.

Miners and Captains have enclosed back verandahs, which is a practical containment option while you use the outdoor space. The 14 acres include a seasonal dam for walking around, though it can be dry depending on rainfall.

Max: the fencing covers the boundary but mind the driveway gap. A quick check of the gate area before your dog roams is worth the thirty seconds.

The cottages themselves

Each cottage is private and self-contained with full kitchen facilities, a fireplace for winter and wide verandahs looking over the valley. Guests regularly single out the welcoming hosts and the way dogs are treated as guests rather than an exception. There is a pool for summer stays.

Getting there and out and about

The property sits on Beechworth-Wodonga Road, roughly 10 to 15 minutes' drive from Beechworth and a similar distance from Yackandandah, and it sits right by the Beechworth to Yackandandah rail trail for on-lead walking. For coffee, Coffee Staines - Cafe in Beechworth and Two Sisters on High in Yackandandah both work for a dog-in-tow stop.
