Craggy Peaks Tasmania

Craggy Peaks Tasmania is a self-contained wilderness cabin and camping retreat at 1410 Rossarden Road, Rossarden, set in the Fingal Valley at the base of Ben Lomond National Park, with views up to Stacks Bluff and the Ben Lomond escarpment. Studio cabins sleep two, two-bedroom cabins sleep five, and there are powered sites for motorhomes and unpowered sites for tents alongside.

No pets since May 2025

Craggy Peaks previously welcomed dogs, and some booking sites still describe it as pet-friendly, but the property's own stay page now states clearly: as of May 2025, Craggy Peaks no longer accepts pets, in the cabins or on the camping and caravan sites. Only certified service animals are permitted. If you are planning a Ben Lomond trip around a dog, treat older listings that call this place pet-friendly as out of date and book elsewhere.

What it is like

The cabins are self-contained with full kitchens and parking right at each door, and reviews consistently rate them clean, warm and modern. There is no on-site store, with food and supplies about 25km away, and Telstra is currently the only mobile carrier with coverage. Reception runs from 9am to 6:30pm, with on-site staff outside those hours for emergencies, and there is an all-weather outdoor area with BBQs. The drive is roughly 1.25 hours from Launceston Airport or St Helens and 2.5 hours from Hobart. Note that dogs are not permitted inside Ben Lomond National Park itself, so even service-animal access is limited to the property.

Max: If your trip plan assumed a dog-friendly cabin at Craggy Peaks, rebuild it around Launceston instead and day-trip to the escarpment without the dog.
