Black Bluff View Retreat

Black Bluff View Retreat is a five-bedroom, two-bathroom holiday house at 180 Harveys Road in North Motton, inland from Penguin and Ulverstone on Tasmania's north-west coast. It sleeps up to eight guests on 40 hectares of mostly private bushland, with Black Bluff itself as the backdrop. One thing to get straight before you book: dogs are possible here, but only by prior arrangement.

Dogs at the retreat

The host's own additional-information page for the retreat is explicit: no pets are allowed unless you discuss it with the owner before you arrive. Some booking platforms list the property as strictly no pets, and that's the default reading - a dog here is a special arrangement, not a listed feature. No weight limits, fees or access rules are published, so if you're travelling with a dog, contact the property manager directly and get the pet terms agreed in writing first.

The caution makes sense once you know the setting. The 40 hectares are bushland with wallabies, echidnas and possums moving through, and the property exists partly for that wildlife, so any dog allowed on site will need to be a well-controlled one.

The house

It's a standalone group house - five bedrooms, two bathrooms, room for eight - pitched at gatherings where space, quiet and the view matter more than luxury trimmings. North Motton is a tiny rural locality, so this is a base for day trips along the north-west coast rather than a walk-to-town stay.

Getting there

Harveys Road runs inland from the Bass Highway between Ulverstone and Penguin, roughly ten to fifteen minutes from either town. Parking is private and on site.

Close by with the dogs

Once any dog arrangement is confirmed with the host, Penguin Dog Park is the closest dedicated off-leash space, and Beach Hut Coffee in Ulverstone is a dog-welcoming cafe stop. If the owner says no to pets, High On Penguin is a nearby larger-group stay that takes pets.
