Book the pet room type directly and email the team to confirm your dog's breed before arrival. Money-wise, a $100 pet deposit applies, refundable minus any damage, plus $10 per pet per night. Dogs cannot be left in the room unattended, so plan meals and outings around having someone with the dog. The useful part: the resort's bar and restaurant welcome dogs in the alfresco dining area, so dinner does not require leaving anyone behind.

It is a compact resort with king suites and well-maintained rooms, and reviews regularly single out the accommodating staff. If your dog is over 20 kg this is not the property; the 20 kg cap is enforced by room type, not goodwill.

The resort sits in central Mackay, an easy drive off the Bruce Highway and close to the city centre's cafes and the hospital precinct. On-site parking comes with the room.

Close by with the dogs

For coffee, Woodmans Axe Espresso Bar on Gordon Street takes leashed dogs at the outdoor tables. For a proper run, Mackay Regional Council's fenced off-leash parks, including the Police Dog Tunza Dog Park in North Mackay, are a short drive, and the Town Beach foreshore allows on-leash walking along the sand flats.
