Lake Anderson Caravan Park

Lake Anderson Caravan Park sits on the edge of Lake Anderson at 1 Alliance Street in Chiltern, an easy walk from the historic township on the Hume between Melbourne and the Murray. It is a working stop for dog travellers: dogs stay overnight on caravan and camping sites, with a communal fire pit and camp kitchen to round out the evening.

Dogs and sites

Dogs are welcome on powered and unpowered sites in your own rig or tent, on a lead and under effective control for the whole stay, and they cannot be left unattended at your site. The park's cabins and villas are for people only, so book a site type that matches your setup rather than assuming a cabin booking works.

No fixed pet surcharge is published, and general site rates apply. Worth a quick call ahead to confirm nothing seasonal has changed before you lock in dates.

The vibe

Drive-through sites make an overnight pull-through simple with a dog on board, and the amenities and camp kitchen are kept clean by the look of guest feedback. Being close to town is the practical bonus: walk to a cafe or the pub in the evening instead of driving, dog in tow.

Pepsi: a site with your own van or tent means the dog settles right outside your door, rather than waiting behind a cabin door while you eat.

Getting there and parking

Turn off the Hume at Chiltern and follow the signs to Alliance Street; the park is signposted from town and there is parking at your site. Chiltern is roughly halfway between Wodonga and Wangaratta, an easy first or last night on the Melbourne to Albury run.

While you're out there

The Lake Anderson walking track loops right beside the park, an easy on-lead circuit with open grass along the way. Note that dogs are not allowed in the surrounding Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park, so keep bushwalks to town reserves and rail trails.
