The Yorkie Rippa

The Yorkie Rippa is an English-inspired eatery in the Nobby Beach pocket of Mermaid Beach, built around Yorkshire puddings baked on-site daily. It is a compact, casual spot, and the footpath tables out front are where you and your dog fit in.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables outside the shop front, and staff are accommodating, often bringing out a water bowl. The small indoor dining room stays people-only, so plan to sit outside and pick a table with shade if you are eating through the middle of the day. A short leash helps here, because the footpath seating sits right against street traffic on Chairlift Avenue.

Worth knowing

The menu is genuinely different for the Gold Coast: stuffed Yorkie wraps filled with rotisserie chicken, slow-cooked rosemary-rubbed beef brisket or baked cauliflower and vintage cheddar, plus Giant Old Skool Yorkies with roast trimmings, rosemary spud nuggets and honey-glazed carrots. Little Rippas are the smaller-portion take. It opens Wednesday to Sunday from 11am, closing Monday and Tuesday, with Sunday service ending at 4pm.

Getting there and parking

Find it at Shop 8, 28 Chairlift Avenue, in the Nobby Beach dining precinct. Street parking runs along Chairlift Avenue and the nearby streets and gets tight at peak meal times, so arriving early or walking a block or two is normal.

Close by with the dogs

Nobby Beach is a few blocks away, but note the City of Gold Coast rules: dogs are allowed on-lead on most beaches except within 200 metres of the red and yellow patrolled flags, and local parks like St Johns Park are on-lead only. For an actual off-leash run, the fenced Pizzey Park dog area at Mermaid Waters is about 1.5km inland, and Palm Beach's off-leash dog beach is a short drive south.
