Sandstone & Co is a hearty, old-fashioned cafe and restaurant on the Surf Coast Highway in Grovedale, best known for a huge on-site cake and slice selection and simple, generous food. The private courtyard out back is the reason it works for dogs.

When to go. Weekday mornings are quieter if you want the courtyard to yourself. Confirm the courtyard is open for dogs on the day, especially around the Friday and Saturday dinner sitting when it may run busier bookings.
