Macchiato Lounge is a small, well-rated cafe and restaurant at 254 Dorset Road in Boronia, and the reason it works for a dog owner is simple: the outdoor footpath tables out front are where your dog is welcome, so a coffee run here doubles as a street-side sit with your dog beside you.

The dog setup

Dogs are allowed at the outdoor tables, on lead and under control. There is no fenced courtyard, so it is a straightforward footpath setup facing a main road, and lead discipline matters with traffic close by. Indoors is off limits apart from registered assistance animals, per Victorian food safety rules. Staff are friendly and used to serving the outside tables, but a water bowl is not automatically set out, so ask when you order or bring your own.

Worth knowing

The coffee is the draw: macchiatos, mochas, chai lattes and iced coffee done properly, backed by a brunch menu that runs to smashed avocado toast, pastries, brownies and a kids' menu. Reviewers call it a quiet, clean, easygoing spot rather than a busy strip cafe. Hours are 8am to 2:30pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 2:30pm Sunday, and the kitchen is shut every Saturday, so plan your visit around that.

Getting there and parking

254 Dorset Road runs through the middle of Boronia in Melbourne's east, with street parking along the strip and Boronia station a short walk away. The footpath tables are directly out front, so you can see your spot from the car.
