The Woodvale Tavern

The Woodvale Tavern is a local pub at 143 Trappers Drive in Woodvale, on Perth's northern beaches side, with a spacious outdoor beer garden, weekly food specials and big screens for live sport. It is dog-friendly in the alfresco areas, which makes it an easy stop before or after a walk around nearby Yellagonga Regional Park.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor beer garden on a leash and under control; the indoor bar, dining room and lounge are humans only. The beer garden is roomy and shaded, so there is space to park a dog out of the foot traffic. Water bowls sometimes turn up courtesy of staff or regulars, but bring your own, especially on a warm Perth afternoon.

The vibe

This is a proper neighbourhood tavern: Sunday roast and carvery, a regular parmigiana night, ribs and live music on the calendar. Big screens show AFL, rugby and soccer, and the beer garden fills up on game days and weekend afternoons, so plan around the fixture list if your dog dislikes crowds.

Max: stick to the beer garden and keep the leash short on game days, the outdoor area fills up fast once the football starts.

Getting there and parking

The tavern sits on Trappers Drive next to the Woodvale Boulevard Shopping Centre, with free on-site parking, so it combines easily with other errands. Doors open from 10am daily, trading later on Friday and Saturday nights.

Yellagonga Regional Park and Lake Joondalup are a short drive for a proper leg-stretch, and the Lake Joondalup Circuit is the pick for a longer on-lead loop.
