Blackbutt Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Blackbutt Reserve is a purpose-built fenced dog park inside the wider Blackbutt Park grounds on Blackbutt Drive in Wauchope, sitting alongside the local sports fields. It is the most complete dog park on the Hastings hinterland: double-gated enclosures split into small and large dog zones, a full agility circuit, and 24-hour access. For a regional town, it is a serious facility.

The dog setup

Off-leash play happens strictly inside the fenced zones, which are physically separated for small and large dogs with transition gates between entry and enclosure. Outside the fences, in the rest of Blackbutt Park, the leash goes back on. The agility kit is the standout: a concrete tunnel, an agility loop, slalom poles, a ramp and platform, bar jumps and recycled tyres to launch from. A water bubbler with dog bowls keeps the runs from ending early, shaded seating covers the human side, and parking sits right beside the gates.

Worth knowing

Handlers stay inside with their dogs and keep voice and visual control, and the usual etiquette applies: no glass, no food, bags into the bins provided. The small and large dog separation only works if everyone uses the right gate, so check the signage on the way in. Between the agility gear and the sociable crowd, this is a popular training spot for young dogs learning park manners.

Getting there and parking

The dog park is a few minutes' drive from central Wauchope, reached off Blackbutt Drive, with on-site parking next to the fenced area. Residential streets nearby make it a walkable destination for locals on the southern side of town.

For coffee after the session, Watermans Cafe on High Street welcomes dogs at its outdoor tables, and Coffee on High is another High Street option in the same block. Further afield, Stuart Park's fenced dog park in Port Macquarie is the larger coastal counterpart if you are heading that way.
