Sarina Beach Off Leash Dog Area is a sandy, beach-adjacent off-leash zone stretching from near the surf club northwards towards the mangroves at Sarina Beach, roughly 10km east of Sarina town in the Mackay region. The defining factor for any visit is the strict time window: dogs are only permitted off-leash from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Outside these hours, your dog must be leashed.

Getting there. From Sarina town centre, take Sarina Beach Road east for about 10 to 15 minutes. The road leads directly to the beach. Driving is recommended as public bus services between Sarina and Sarina Beach are limited.

Watch-outs and crowd tips. Weekend mornings between 6 and 7 a.m. are the busiest period. For a quieter session, aim for a weekday morning or early afternoon, then return for the 5 p.m. window. The best combination is a weekday morning session timed with a falling or low tide, giving your dog maximum sand and shallow water. This spot suits dogs of all sizes that enjoy running on sand and splashing in the shallows.
