Happy Houndz Adventure Park is a private, fully fenced dog paddock on Knotts Hill Road in Kangarilla, in the Adelaide Hills. It runs on exclusive-use bookings, so when you turn up, the whole two acres is yours, not a shared park with strangers'' dogs to negotiate.

The rules. Sessions are booked in advance through the park''s Facebook page, not walk-up. Each booking runs 45 minutes, with a 15-minute changeover before the next group arrives, so there''s no overlap between visitors. The park is open Tuesday to Sunday, 9am to 5pm, and closed Mondays. Dogs need to be healthy and either fully vaccinated or on a current titre test. Up to three dogs from two households can book a single session together.

What''s there. The paddock is fully fenced with natural rural terrain, agility equipment, tunnels and a paddle pool for hot days. A water station is provided, and the paddle pool water is refreshed between bookings. It backs onto neighbouring livestock paddocks, so dogs get plenty of interesting smells, but reactive dogs should still be supervised near the boundary fence.

Getting there. The address is 2 Knotts Hill Road, Kangarilla, off Peters Creek Road, near Kuitpo Forest. There''s no public transport out this way, so you''ll need your own car. On-site parking is available, including wheelchair-accessible parking.

Book early. Exclusive-use sessions on weekend mornings and early afternoons fill fast, and turning up without a booking means no entry.

Nearby with the dogs. Dawn Patrol Coffee in Kangarilla is a short drive away and dog-friendly for a post-paddock coffee. CABN Kuitpo Forest, just up the road, offers pet-friendly, off-grid accommodation if you''re making a weekend of it. McLaren Vale, with its cluster of dog-friendly wineries and cafes, is also within easy reach.

When to go. Weekdays are quieter and easier to book. If you want a weekend slot, book as soon as the schedule opens on the Facebook page, and stick to the 15-minute changeover window so you''re not arriving while the previous group is still packing up.
