Compton Dog Park

Compton Dog Park is a fully fenced, off-leash exercise area on Compton Drive in East Ballina, a short walk from the coast. The draw is simple: a big, secure space with built-in agility gear where dogs run without a lead, backed by a double-gated entry so nobody bolts into the car park.

The dog setup

Dogs run off-leash inside the fenced area under effective voice control, and anti-social or aggressive dogs are expected to leave straight away. Keep dogs leashed in the adjacent car park and on the surrounding footpaths, and do not let them chase local wildlife. Pick up after your dog; bags are sometimes stocked at the park, but bring your own to be safe. The ground is level, the layout is wheelchair accessible, and there is shaded seating plus a dog water station.

Worth knowing

Weekday mornings, roughly 7 to 9am, and late afternoons from 4 to 6pm are the busiest windows, so go mid-morning or midday for a quieter run. It is best for social dogs with solid recall; a crowded run is not worth a spooked dog, and if the park reads as too busy, the coastal path is the calmer alternative.

Getting there and parking

The park sits on Compton Drive with free street parking out front. Driving is the easy option; East Ballina buses run nearby but do not drop you at the gate. You can also reach it on foot via the coastal walking and cycling track from Lighthouse Beach, which makes a good warm-up.

Close by with the dogs

The coastal path toward Angels Beach is good for an on-lead walk, and Lighthouse Beach has its own off-leash section. For coffee afterwards, Double Shot on Brighton is the local stop with dogs at the outdoor tables, and Kingsford Smith dog park is the other fenced option in the shire.
