Victory Park Dog Off Leash Area

Victory Park holds the biggest off-leash stretch of grass in Bentleigh, two sports ovals on Patterson Road ringed by mature eucalypts. It is a working park as much as a dog park: cricket in summer, soccer in winter, a busy playground and a stream of local walkers, so the off-leash rules matter here more than they do at a quiet backstreet reserve.

The dog setup

The sportsgrounds are designated off-leash, provided sport or club training is not on. The ovals are unfenced and back onto surrounding streets and paths, so this suits dogs with reliable recall rather than dogs who bolt. Glen Eira's standard conditions apply: off-lead dogs need to be under effective voice control, and on-lead the lead cannot be longer than 1.5 metres. Dogs stay leashed in the car park, on pathways and near the playground, and stay 20 metres clear of barbecues, picnic areas and any organised event. Fenced playgrounds and the cricket nets are out of bounds entirely, and council officers patrol the park regularly. There is a dog-friendly water fountain near the playground and waste bins on site, though carrying your own bags is still wise.

The vibe

This is a genuinely popular local spot rather than a hidden corner: families on the playground side, runners on the internal paths and a steady rotation of dog walkers across the ovals. Weekend mornings and the late-afternoon window on weekdays are the busiest; weekday mornings and early afternoons leave more room to yourselves.

Getting there and parking

The park is at 21 Patterson Road, Bentleigh VIC 3204, near the South Road intersection, with free off-street parking. Patterson Station on the Frankston line is an easy walk if you would rather come by train.

Close by with the dogs

If the ovals are taken over by a match, the Hodgson Reserve Dog Off Leash Area is a good fallback, and Halley Park Dog Off Leash Area gives you another option further along the strip. Patterson Road's cafe stretch is close enough for a coffee stop on the way home.
