THE CAFE SYNDICATE

The Cafe Syndicate sits on the ground floor of the UnitingSA building at 1 Charles Street, West Lakes, overlooking the old AMI Stadium oval. It is a Responsible Cafes Gold Bean venue with a serious brunch kitchen, and dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating out front.

The dog setup

Dogs can join you in the undercover outdoor seating facing the oval, while the interior is humans only inside a professional building, with assistance dogs excepted. The entrance sees steady foot traffic through the working day, so a dog that settles quietly on a short lead and stays clear of walkways will have a much better time than one that greets everyone. Bring your own water bowl to be safe.

Worth knowing

The kitchen covers breakfast and lunch properly: chilli scrambled eggs, avocado on toast, big breakfasts, loaded omelettes, pancakes and toasted banana bread, plus gourmet sandwiches and solid vegetarian and vegan options. The cabinet of cakes is well regarded, and the coffee matches it. Hours run 8am to 4pm on weekdays and 9am to 3pm on weekends, so weekend brunch fills up with locals.

Getting there and parking

Street parking is available around Charles Street, and the cafe is walkable straight off the main street or across from the oval. It is an easy stop between the lake and the coast, with flat access from the car park to the outdoor tables.

Close by with the dogs

The oval directly opposite and the paved path around the West Lakes lake make an easy on-lead loop before breakfast. Under City of Charles Sturt rules most reserves are off-lead by default unless signed, and Semapaw Park Fenced Dog Park at Semaphore Park is a short drive for a fully fenced run.
