Ciabatta

Ciabatta is a stripped-back Italian panini bar at 1 Denison Street, North Sydney, from the team behind Antica Dining. It is built around a lunchtime queue rather than a lingering sit-down: house-baked ciabatta, fast service, done by 3:30pm. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables, which makes it a practical CBD lunch stop rather than a dog cafe destination.

The dog setup

Seating is street-side footpath tables only, with no indoor access and no separate courtyard. The footpath is narrow and busy at lunch, so keep your dog leashed and close to the table. It is not set up as a dedicated dog venue: do not count on a water bowl or treats as standard, and bring your own water on a warm day.

Pepsi: Skip the noon rush and I get a footpath table, a mortadella crumb, and a short wait. Arrive at 1:30 and it is easy street.

Worth knowing

The panini carry the reputation: mortadella, stracciatella, pistachio, and a chicken schnitzel number among the fillings, with cacio e pepe croquettes, warm cinnamon zeppole and a tiramisu latte rounding it out. It moves quickly and popular fillings can sell out early, so treat it as a grab-and-go stop. Hours run 8am to 3:30pm weekdays and 8am to 3pm Saturdays, closed Sundays.

Getting there and parking

Denison Street sits right by North Sydney station, so most people arrive on foot or by train. Street parking on Denison and Walker Streets is limited, with paid parking stations nearby if you drive in.

Close by with the dogs

St Leonards Park at Ridge and Miller Streets is an easy walk and mostly a 24-hour off-leash area, though dogs stay on lead around the sports ovals when games are on. Further afield, the Waverton Park to Balls Head Reserve Loop is a proper harbour-side walk, and Brewmance at Crows Nest is another North Sydney side coffee stop that takes dogs outdoors.
