The Maribyrnong Boathouse

The Maribyrnong Boathouse sits on The Boulevard with the river directly in front, which is the whole point of the place: floor to ceiling glass on the water side, an outdoor terrace and deck, and a menu running from chilli scrambled eggs at breakfast through to calamari, pizza and lamb salad later in the day. Weekdays open at 9am, weekends from 8:30am, and Friday and Saturday nights run late with live music on selected evenings.

Dogs on the lower deck

This venue publishes its own pet guidelines, so the process is explicit rather than guesswork: pets are allowed on the lower deck of the terrace. Owners secure the leash at the side gate near the terrace, check in through the front door, then collect the dog at the gate, and staff provide a water bowl on request. It is a small extra loop worth knowing before arrival, since turning up with a dog straight to the table will get you redirected. Once settled, the lower deck faces the river path, and the staff are clearly used to the routine.

Make a day of it

The river makes the pairing obvious: the Maribyrnong River loop trail starts a short drive south in Aberfeldie and finishes back near the boulevard, and Calmer Cafe in Aberfeldie is the quieter coffee fallback if the Boathouse deck is full. The Boulevard has street parking out front but it turns over slowly on weekends, so budget a few minutes or park on the cross streets. The river path in both directions is the natural leash-on walk before or after a table, and weekday mornings are the calmest window for a dog still getting used to cafe decks.
