Kynefin Cafe

Kynefin is a cosy village cafe in Hall on Canberra's north-west edge, built around house-made comfort food and a courtyard that has become a regular stop for the district's dog walking crowd.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcomed in the outdoor courtyard, which has sun, shade and well-spaced tables, with water bowls put out. Only assistance dogs go inside the main cafe, so plan on the courtyard for your visit. Keep dogs on a lead, as the courtyard sits close to a country road.

Worth knowing

Most of the menu is made on site: Bombolini doughnuts, bacon and egg rolls, crumpets, savoury pies and homemade jams, with a vegan curry in the mix. It opens Wednesday to Friday from 8:30am and weekends from 8am, closing at 3pm, and shuts Monday and Tuesday, so check the day before you drive out.

Getting there and parking

You will find it at 2-4 Victoria Street in the Hall Village shops, a short drive from Gungahlin or central Canberra, with free street parking along Victoria Street. The village is clearly signposted from the main route into Hall, so finding it is simple the first time.

Pepsi: Kynefin gets busy with walking groups on weekend mornings, so if your dog is more of a lone wanderer, an earlier coffee run means more room in the courtyard.

Close by with the dogs

Hall's quiet streets suit an easy pre- or post-coffee walk, and the Hall Markets on the second Sunday of the month are dog-friendly too. Daughters at Hall is the village's other cafe, and the Yerrabi Pond loop at Gungahlin is a flat waterside walk a short drive away.
