The Door Gallery Cafe

The Door Gallery Cafe sits inside the historic Fyansford Paper Mill precinct, part cafe, part gallery of antique Indian doors, with a shaded garden and covered patio looking over the Barwon River. Dogs are welcome outside, and the resident cafe dog, Flow, is often out there to say hello.

The dog setup

Dogs take the outdoor garden and covered patio, not the gallery rooms inside where the doors are displayed. Water bowls are usually put out for visiting dogs, but carry your own in case none is free. The river-facing tables are the ones to aim for with a dog at your feet. Flow is friendly with visiting dogs, and the garden layout leaves room for a bigger breed to settle under a table.

The vibe and the menu

The menu runs to curries, gourmet pizzas, toasties and platters, with vegan options and homemade scones. Live music and open mic nights run on weekends, which means a busier, louder room then, good for social dogs and worth avoiding if yours is noise-sensitive. Scones come out fresh on weekends and the wine list suits a slow afternoon by the river.

Getting there and parking

The cafe is on the roundabout inside the Paper Mill site, an easy run from Geelong via Fyansford-Hamilton Road. On-site parking fills on weekends, especially when music is on. It opens Wednesday to Sunday from 10am and closes Monday and Tuesday.

Close by with the dogs

The Barwon River walking trail runs right past the precinct, and the Buckley Falls and Barwon River walk is the mapped route. The Fyansford Hotel nearby is another dog-friendly stop within the precinct.
