House of Roast - Cardiff

House of Roast is a specialty coffee spot and roastery at 69 Munibung Road in Cardiff, pouring house-roasted blends from an industrial-garage style fit-out with an upstairs area. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating, which makes it a solid coffee stop on the Lake Macquarie side of Newcastle.

The dog setup

Dogs are allowed in the outdoor area only, on lead, while the interior and upper-level seating stay humans-only. The outdoor tables are easy to grab and the space is roomy, but Munibung Road carries steady traffic, so keep dogs close to the table. There is no guaranteed water bowl, so bring your own on warm days and ask staff when you arrive.

Coffee, pies and toasties

This is a roastery first: bags of house-roasted beans are on sale alongside the cafe service, and the drinks list runs to iced Biscoff, Nutella and pistachio creations plus matcha. Food is grab-and-go and dine-in, with loaded toasties, savoury pies, rolls and rotating pastries. Hours run 6am to 3pm seven days, with the kitchen winding up around 2:30pm, so it is a morning-and-lunch operation. Weekend car parks fill, which tells you how much locals rate it.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits in the Munibung Road industrial strip off the Newcastle Road corridor, with on-site parking plus free street parking nearby. Before coffee, the fenced run at Speers Point is a short drive south for an off-lead session, and the Charlestown Dog Exercise Area covers the other direction. New Nero Espresso Bar in central Cardiff is the suburb's other dog-friendly coffee option if this one is packed.
