Peninsula Pantry

Peninsula Pantry runs out of 661 Boneo Road on the Mornington Peninsula, open 8am to 3pm Wednesday through Monday and closed on Tuesdays. It is a bakery counter first and a cafe second, and the cabinet does the talking: vanilla slice, cinnamon scrolls, pies, sausage rolls and an egg and bacon roll for the drive down the peninsula.

The dog setup

Visitor reports and local guides describe the outdoor seating as dog friendly, with water bowls put out and a relaxed setup for dogs tied up nearby while their people eat. There is no written policy from the venue itself, so treat it as the usual courtesy arrangement: leads on, dog out of walkways, and an eye on the bakery line. The 3pm close makes this a breakfast or lunch stop rather than a late afternoon one, and the Tuesday closure catches people out, so plan around it.

The vibe

This is peninsula road trip food done properly. The vanilla slice is the headline item, the cinnamon scrolls sell early, and there is a flourless chocolate cake and an almond croissant for anyone who made it down before nine. Coffee service is quick, the seating is outdoors, and most of the room is people in thongs between beaches.

Getting there and parking

Boneo Road is the main run down the peninsula's bay side, so parking is off street and simple, a quick pull in from the road. You are positioned between Rye and the Point Nepean end, which puts a chain of dog friendly stops within a few minutes each way.

Make a day of it
