The rules. Kempsey Shire Council designates this beach as an off-leash zone, but leashes are mandatory in the car parks, at beach access points, and on the paths leading onto the sand. Once you reach the beach, dogs can be off-leash provided they are under effective voice control at all times. Dogs showing aggression must be leashed immediately. Signposted sections of the dunes and any designated protected nature reserves are off-limits to dogs. Owners must pick up after their dogs, with bags and bins typically provided at the access points.

Terrain and water. The beach is a wide, scenic sand system that connects north towards Grassy Head. More sand space opens up at lower tides, particularly near the creek mouth. Shade on the beach itself is limited, which matters in summer when the sand heats up.

What is there. Amenities are minimal. There is a small parking area at the end of Ocean Avenue and Marine Parade, direct sand access paths, public bins, and some picnic seating nearby. Do not expect showers, taps, or fenced enclosures.

Getting there. Take the Stuarts Point exit from the Pacific Highway and follow signs to Ocean Avenue until it terminates near the beach access. Public transport to the beach is very limited, so arriving by car, bicycle, or on foot from local accommodation is the practical option.

Watch-outs. Always check the sand temperature in warmer months, as there is little shade to retreat to. Respect the signposted dune exclusion zones, which protect vulnerable sections of the coastal ecosystem.

Timing your visit. Aim for early morning or late afternoon in summer to avoid hot sand and the family crowds that arrive during NSW school holidays. Lower tides deliver the most usable sand, especially near the creek mouth.
