Yorkeys Knob Foreshore Promenade

The Yorkeys Knob foreshore runs along Sims Esplanade in Yorkeys Knob, north of Cairns. It pairs a sealed beachfront path with a signed off-leash stretch of sand at the southern end.

Leads and the off-leash beach

Cairns Regional Council requires dogs to be on lead on the footpaths and in the parkland. The off-leash section is the southern end of Yorkeys Knob Beach, south of the corner of Sims Esplanade and Kempton Street.

Check the signs when you arrive, and keep clear of the seasonal stinger-net enclosures.

The walk

A sealed concrete and asphalt path follows the beachfront parkland, with views out to the Coral Sea. Grass and sand sit right beside it, so there is no mud to deal with.

Water and shade

Drinking taps with dog bowls sit along the esplanade, plus hoses that are handy for rinsing off sand and salt. Mature trees, shaded shelters and seating line the foreshore, and bins are spread through the park.

Angle parking is right next to the beach entry points, and free electric barbecues make it easy to stay longer.

Pepsi: Save the swim for the off-leash end, then use the esplanade hoses to rinse off before the drive home.

Early morning or late afternoon beats the tropical midday heat. The paved path suits dogs of any age.
