Rockhampton River Bank Walk

Following the Fitzroy River past the city centre, the Rockhampton River Bank Walk runs through the Riverside Precinct on paved paths and boardwalks. Dogs are welcome on a lead, and the river views keep it interesting day after day.

Lead rules

Rockhampton Regional Council requires dogs on a lead in public spaces along the riverside precinct. Keep dogs well back from the water's edge, because crocodiles live in the river.

The walk

The concrete paths and boardwalks are flat and wide enough to pass cyclists and other walkers comfortably. Along the way you pass historic streetscapes, public art and green spaces.

Banyan figs and park shelters shade some sections, but the open paving gets hot at midday. Bubblers sit near the main activity areas, bins are regular along the path, and parking is easy near the precinct.

Max: Crocodiles live in the Fitzroy. Keep the lead short near the edge and never let the dog drink from the river.

For an off-lead run, the fenced Victoria Park Dog Off-Leash Area in Wandal is close by.

Go early or late on warm days, when the paving is cooler on paws. The smooth, level surface suits older dogs.
