Thornton Oval

Thornton Oval on Taylor Avenue is a community sportsground rather than a bush trail. Its perimeter makes a simple, flat on-lead loop for Thornton locals.

Lead rules

Maitland City Council requires dogs on a leash at all times on its sports fields and ovals unless a sign says otherwise. The oval is not an off-leash area.

For off-lead exercise, the council's designated spot in Thornton is Allan and Don Lawrence Field on Thomas Coke Drive. It is unfenced.

The walk

The route circles open turf on grass and concrete footpaths, bordered by houses and club buildings. Sightlines are clear the whole way round.

Shade comes only from trees around the edges, and dog water on the field is limited, so bring a bowl. Bins sit around the sportsground and pavilion.

Parking is off Taylor Avenue, in the street or the venue bays.
