Skeleton Creek Trail

Skeleton Creek Trail winds through Point Cook past river red gums and wetlands where herons and egrets feed. It is an on-lead walk the whole way, on a smooth path that is easy for most dogs.

Lead rules

Dogs are welcome but must stay leashed at all times on this shared-use trail. Wyndham City Council manages the Point Cook section, and Hobsons Bay City Council looks after the lower reaches toward Altona Meadows.

A lead also keeps curious noses out of the wetlands, where the birds are the point.

The walk

The trail is mostly sealed concrete with some compacted gravel. It follows the curves of the creek and runs on through Sanctuary Lakes, Altona Meadows and Truganina, so you can make it as long as you like.

Make a day of it

Point Cook has good coffee close by, with Bean Smuggler and Alamanda Cafe & Bistro both worth a stop.

When to go

Mornings are a good time for the birds and for cooler walking. The smooth surface suits older dogs, and you can turn back at any point. Bring water for the dog.
