Queanbeyan River Walk

The Queanbeyan River Walk follows the river from the CBD and Queanbeyan East towards Oaks Estate, past old homes, churches and the 1938 Suspension Bridge. Dogs are welcome on lead.

Lead rules

Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council keeps dogs on a lead along the riverside paths. Off-lead play belongs in designated areas elsewhere in the region, such as The Scar and Garry Owen Reserve.

The walk

The route is mostly sealed concrete and bitumen shared path, with formed walking track along parts of the riverbank.

River bends and 19th-century buildings keep it interesting, and the Suspension Bridge makes an easy landmark to turn around at.

Make a day of it

Back in town, The Mill Cafe and Thirty 4 Café & Restaurant are both handy for a coffee after the walk.

When to go

Shared paths draw cyclists, so quieter early mornings suit reactive dogs. The sealed surface is kind to older dogs; bring water for the dog.
