Kooloonbung Creek Nature Park

Kooloonbung Creek Nature Park brings wetland and mangrove bush right into the heart of Port Macquarie, off Gordon Street. Raised timber boardwalks carry you past towering paperbarks, birdlife and a colony of resting flying foxes.

Lead rules

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council allows dogs on lead only, under effective control, throughout the park.

The walk

The route mixes boardwalk with cleared walking tracks, and it is flat and easy going. A thick canopy of trees and mangroves shades most of it.

Parking is close to the entrances off Gordon Street, with picnic spots, toilets and general bins near the main entries. Dog water on the trail is limited, so bring a bowl.

Max: Flying foxes and waterbirds are right beside the path. Keep a short lead and a calm pace through the colony.

Make a day of it

The town centre is close, so finish with Social Grounds Cafe or a cone from Port's Mr Ice Cream.

When to go

Mosquitoes can be busy in the wetland, so pack repellent for yourself. The flat, shaded boardwalks suit older dogs and quiet walkers who like a nature fix without driving out of town.
