Joondalup PSP

Through Osborne Park, the Joondalup PSP is the Mitchell Freeway's principal shared path, a wide sealed commuter route beside the freeway. It is not a bush walk, but it is long, smooth and free of burrs, and dogs must be on lead.

Leads and bikes

Main Roads Western Australia owns the path, and the City of Stirling handles dog control. Dogs must be leashed on shared paths here, and cyclists use this one heavily, so keep the lead short and hold to one side.

The walk

The asphalt and concrete surface runs continuously, so you can set your own distance. Look out for the underpass artworks that celebrate the area's market garden history.

Shade comes and goes, from open exposed stretches to patches under embankment plantings and overpasses. On hot days, test the pavement with the back of your hand before committing.

Getting on

Join from the ramps near the Scarborough Beach Road and Hutton Street overpasses, where there is street parking and bays nearby. Bins are at the main entry points, but water is scarce, so bring a bowl.

Finish with a coffee at The Coffee Cabinet in Osborne Park.

It suits confident, bike-calm dogs and owners who want a steady, predictable walk. Nervous dogs will be happier somewhere quieter.
