Farrer Ridge Walking Track

Farrer Ridge Nature Reserve gives Farrer a real bushwalk on its doorstep, with ridge views over the Woden and Tuggeranong valleys. Dogs are welcome as long as they stay on a lead and on the track.

Lead rules

Parks ACT allows dogs in this part of Canberra Nature Park only on a lead and only on the formed tracks and trails.

There are no bins in the reserve, so carry every waste bag out with you.

The walk

The ground is rougher than a suburban loop. Expect dirt tracks, rocky stairs, log steps and unsealed management trails through grassy woodland, where eastern grey kangaroos are a common sight.

Water and shade

There is no drinking water in the reserve, so bring enough for you and your dog. Eucalypt woodland gives partial shade, but the management trails are more exposed.

Getting started

A popular start is the top of Muresk Street in Farrer, with more entries off Sulwood Drive and Erindale Drive.

Max: Kangaroos graze right beside these tracks. Short lead, eyes up, and no chasing.

Finish with a coffee at Fox & Bow.

When to go

Go early in summer, before the exposed trails heat up. The steps and rocky stairs suit fit dogs more than seniors.
