Learmonth Park

Learmonth Park sits in Bathurst rather than Windradyne, on the corner of the Great Western Highway and William Street. It is a huge, flat sporting reserve with a paved path around the edge, and dogs are welcome on lead.

Bathurst Regional Council expects dogs to stay on a lead along the paths and around the sporting grounds.

The walk

The perimeter path runs past wide grass fields under scattered mature trees. It is flat the whole way round, which makes it easy going for older dogs and handy for a bit of obedience practice.

The highway side is noisy and exposed, but the traffic hum drops away as you move toward the middle of the reserve. Paths also link on toward Riverside Park and the Macquarie River trail network.

Water and parking

A water tap sits near the western end by the skate park, and there are toilets across the street at Berry Park.

Park at the Berry Park car park, along the highway edge, or near the touch football fields off Gilmour Street and Dorman Place.

Make a day of it

Carry on to the river at Macquarie River Bicentennial Park, or give your dog an off-lead run at West Bathurst Fenced Dog Park.

Shade is patchy on the open fields, so summer walks are best early or late. Flat and on lead, it suits dogs of any age.
