Jubilee Park and Hopkins River Walk

Starting at Jubilee Park, this riverside walk follows the Hopkins River out of Allansford, from a formed park path to a muddy fishing track at the water's edge. Pelicans and swans are the usual company.

Lead rules

Warrnambool City Council requires dogs to be on a lead and under effective control on shared paths and in general park areas, so keep the lead on for this walk.

If your dog needs a run, nearby Allansford Reserve and Schrader Park allow off-lead exercise away from the sports grounds.

The walk

The first stretch near Jubilee Park is an established gravel and paved path. Further along it turns into an informal dirt track that can get muddy close to the river.

Mature native trees shade parts of the bank, and the track opens out as it goes.

Water

The estuary is right there, but bring tap water for drinking rather than letting your dog drink from the river. Carry your own bags too.

Max: The fishing track sits beside pelicans and swans. Keep the lead short and let the birds be.

Mornings are calm and good for birdwatching. Dogs that do not mind muddy paws will enjoy the far end most.
