Harrier Parade Park Dog Off Leash Area

Harrier Parade's dog off leash area is a Tamworth Regional Council designated leash free reserve behind the Harrier Parade residences in Calala, on the southern edge of Tamworth. It is an open, unfenced reserve, which shapes everything about how you use it: your dog needs reliable recall, and you need to keep them visible and under effective control at all times, which is exactly what the council requires. The council provides a water tap with a dog bowl and waste bins on site, and the reserve is open access with no booking or gating, close enough for Calala locals to walk to from the surrounding streets rather than a drive.

The setup

Unfenced off leash areas suit some dogs and not others. If your dog checks in with you, plays and returns when called, the open reserve is a pleasure: room to run proper arcs, chase a ball flat out, and burn energy that a leashed footpath walk never touches. If your dog has selective hearing when excited, or a habit of exploring beyond sight, keep the lead on and use the reserve edges, or work up to off leash with a long line first.

Being a neighbourhood reserve rather than a dedicated dog park, expect mixed use: shared space with other locals and their dogs and the ordinary comings and goings of a residential edge, which is good socialisation practice for a steady dog. The water tap saves you carrying a bottle in the warm months, and the waste bins mean the clean-up expectation is easy to honour. Mornings and evenings are the comfortable sessions in a Tamworth summer, when the middle of the day is too hot for hard running regardless of how keen your dog is.
