Nat’s Coffee

Nat's Coffee is an on-site roaster and cafe at 29 Kays Lane in Alstonville's commercial pocket on the NSW Northern Rivers plateau, and it is a proudly pet-friendly stop where locals pull up with their dogs for the morning brew. Fresh-roasted coffee is the reason to come; the dog welcome is the reason to linger.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating, and water bowls are generally on hand. There is even a resident coffee dog, Arlo, often about the place, so sociable dogs fit right in. Flat, easy access means you can walk a dog straight to a table, and the layout is forgiving of wiggly leads. Keep your dog settled beside the table as the service window gets busy.

The vibe and the menu

Coffee is roasted on-site, and the kitchen turns out a modern cafe menu with a following for bacon and egg rolls, big portions and berry muffins, plus gluten-free options. Hours run from about 6:15am into the early afternoon Monday to Thursday, with a shorter Friday and weekends closed, so it is a weekday-leaning spot. Confirm on the day if you are travelling through.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits in the Kays Lane commercial area rather than the main street, with on-site parking right at the door, which makes it an easy stop by car. Alstonville is a short detour off the Bruxner Highway between Lismore and Ballina.

Make a morning of it

The off-lead space at Alstonville Dog Park is the obvious warm-up before coffee. Back in the village, Buckley's Chance and Miles and Henry Bookstore Cafe keep the dog-friendly options going on the main drag.
