Emerald Beach Dog Beach (North of Fiddamans Creek)

North of Fiddamans Creek, Emerald Beach turns into a 24-hour off-leash dog beach on the Coffs Coast, with a genuine year-round run on sand and no time restrictions. It is about 20 to 25 minutes north of Coffs Harbour and one of the few beaches in the council area where dogs can go off-leash at any hour.

The dog setup

Off-leash applies on the sand and in the water from Fiddamans Creek running north, under effective control at all times. South of the creek, including the main Emerald Beach swimming area, car parks and walking tracks, dogs stay on leash, and signage at the access points marks the boundary.

Owners must pick up waste immediately, with free biodegradable bag dispensers near the leash-free access point. Vehicles can use the beach to launch or retrieve boats but cannot park on the sand.

The water and the sand

This is a surf-facing beach with wide coastal views rather than a calm bay. Low tide opens up the widest run of sand for sprinting, while high tide pushes the water up to the dune line and narrows the play space. Fiddamans Creek at the southern boundary is tidal, so keep an eye on dogs near the creek mouth.

Pepsi: a full stretch of sand with no leash and no clock, this is the kind of beach worth planning a trip around.

Getting there and parking

Access is from Fiddaman Road in Emerald Beach, via paths from the reserve beside the playground or the Diggers Point track. Street parking runs along Fiddaman Road near the reserve, and public toilets, bins and drinking water in the nearby parklands cover the practical side.

Make a day of it

For food, the Emerald Beach General Store on Fiddaman Road is close by for coffee and takeaway, and RATTLE Restaurant and Bar is the sit-down option. Weekday afternoons are quietest, while Saturday and Sunday mornings draw the biggest crowds in summer. Early mornings before 9am or late afternoons give the calmest run. It suits dogs that want space to properly sprint rather than paddle at their owner's feet.
